NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock Volleyball placed two players on the Sun Belt's All-Conference Team Tuesday with
Laura Jansen on the First Team while
Leigh Maher was on the Second Team. Maher also was recognized as the league's Newcomer of the Year.
This marks the 21
st time in the last 28 years Little Rock has placed multiple players on the All-Sun Belt teams with at least one Trojan represented in 27 of the last 28 years. Maher becomes the third Newcomer of the Year honor awarded to a Little Rock players after Barbara Gomes (1996) and Amy Hafner (2007).
Jansen finished the fall season ranked third nationally in points (332.5), total kills (291) and total attacks (840) while ranking 12
th nationally in service aces (21) and total digs (272) and 19
th nationally in kills per set (4.10). She registered 11 double-doubles on the season and three 20-20 performances on the year (20-plus kills, 20-plus kills).
Maher, a junior transfer from LSU, ended the 2020 campaign ranking third nationally in total digs (402) and digs per set (5.66) and 21
st nationally in service aces (17). She recorded double-digit digs every match including a career-high 36 digs against Louisiana on Sept. 25.
The duo claim the 53
rd and 54
th all-conference honors, respectively, claimed by Little Rock since joining the Sun Belt Conference.
Both players had been named Sun Belt Player of the Week at some point during the season with Jansen receiving Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 6 while Maher won Defensive honors in back-to-back weeks in September (Sept. 22 and Sept. 29).
Jansen and Maher led Little Rock to its 15
th appearance in the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals and wins in five of its last six matches.
