Trojans Fall to No. 10 Texas A&M, 79-56

SECond upset not in the cards for Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Krystan Vornes recorded her first career double-double while Bre'Amber Scott posted 23 points and tied a school record for made free throws but Little Rock could not stop No. 10 Texas A&M in a 79-56 decision Thursday night at the Jack Stephens Center.

The 10th-ranked Aggies (5-0) took advantage of remained undefeated on the year by taking advantage of 21 Little Rock turnovers, converting that into 23 points in A&M's 23-point win over the Trojans.

The Trojans (2-2) were not able to register a second-consecutive win over a Southeastern Conference opponent but did challenge Texas A&M throughout the game, driving to the lane and continuously drawing fouls. That proved problematic for the Aggies as Little Rock shot 73.9% from the charity stripe, hitting 17 of 23 attempts. That included a 13-for-13 performance at the line by Scott, who tied a school record for the most free throws made in a single game.

"I was encouraged by what we did offensively," Little Rock Head Coach Joe Foley said. "If we can get in the paint, draw fouls and hit layups against that team, then we can do it against anybody. That is encouraging."

Scott led all players with 23 points but was just 4 of 13 from the field and committed a game-high eight turnovers, an area that plagued the entire team. Little Rock committed 21 turnovers to Texas A&M's 11 miscues.

But as Foley mentioned, the Trojans were able to move the ball offensively and find their way into the lane. Little Rock scored 26 points in the paint against an opponent that had a significant height advantage.

Vornes, who set a new career-high with 12 rebounds, added 11 points to her tally as she registered her first career double-double. Teal Battle (12 points) and Brianna Crane (10 points) also reached double figures for the Trojans.

Little Rock, which came into the game ranked 186th nationally in rebound margin at minus-2.3, out-rebounded the Aggies 38-29. Texas A&M had a rebound margin of plus-13.8 (24th) through its first four games.

Alexis Morris, a redshirt junior transfer from Rutgers after beginning her career at Baylor, scored a season-high 12 points for Texas A&M (5-0) and Ciera Johnson added 10.

Texas A&M's N'dea Jones, who went into the game averaging 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds with four double-doubles this season, finished with seven points and five rebounds - most of which came in the first half. The senior has 815 career rebounds, sixth most in program history, one more than La Toya Micheaux (2005-09).

Aggies coach Gary Blair has 818 career wins and Little Rock's Joe Foley has 803. They rank fourth and fifth, respectively, amongst active coaches and are two of just 16 all-time with at least 800 wins.
