PITTSBURG, Kan. – The streak continues. Little Rock student-athletes have broken a school record in every indoor meet the Trojans have competed in this season and Saturday's trip to the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational was no exception. This time the records came in the men's high jump, women's pole vault and women's 600m.
Â
Christian Matamoros may have had the most impressive record mark, topping a high jump record set 22 years ago. The freshman cleared a height of 6-9.5 (2.07m) Saturday to best a long-standing record originally set by James Lundberg in 1998 as he finished fourth in the event.
Â
In the women's pole vault,
Tricia Pierce's height of 12-2.75 (3.73m) broke her own school record by over seven inches.
Â
Falling records were not limited to field events as
Ariana Garcia ran 1:39.05 in the 600m to break a record originally set by Elisa Suarez in 1996.
Â
Also in the women's field events,
Breya Clark's high jump of 5-1.25 (1.56m) set a new personal record and registers as the eighth-best mark in school history. Then in the long jump,
Bria Allen tied her own career-best mark with a jump of 16-10 (5.13m), which also registers as the ninth-best mark in school history.
Â
Little Rock returns to action next weekend when the Trojans head to College Station, Texas for the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 7-8 hosted by Texas A&M.
