BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Little Rock scored points in the women's distance medley relay (DMR) while four men runners advanced to Tuesday's finals as action began in the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex Monday.
The DMR quartet of
Jordan Edwards,
Ka'Neisha Jackson,
Ariana Garcia and
Vianney Sanchez ran 12:32.10 to finish seventh and score two points for the Trojans. The women ended the first day tied with Louisiana in 10
th place.
Meanwhile four Trojan men earned the right to compete in Tuesday's finals races and potentially score points for Little Rock.
Elijah Wright continued to assert his dominance in the 400m, running a prelims-best and career-best time of 48.24. That marked the third-fastest time in school history.
In the 800m,
Colby Swecker ran 1:56.06 to finish seventh and advance to the finals while
Hunter Tucker advanced to the finals in the mile with a personal best time of 4:21.51.
Troy McKnight also flashed his speed as his 60m dash time of 6.87 marked the eighth-fastest time in school history and registered a new personal best as he placed fifth in the prelims to advance to the finals.
The women's record book continued to be rewritten as
Jaelyn Tucker and
Brandi Allen ran identical 7.80 times marking the sixth-fastest marks in school history. Tucker also imparted her name in the school record book with a long jump mark of 17-2.25 (5.24m), ranking eighth in school history.
In the 200m,
Aaliyah Lacy barely missed the chance to advance the finals with a time of 24.83, a mark that ranks third in school history. Despite her fast time, she finished just 0.04 shy of advancing.
Tuesday's action at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships gets underway at 11:30 a.m. with field events while running events will start at 2 p.m.
