BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Little Rock saw four podium finishes – including a trio of silver medals claimed – and three school records fall as action wrapped up at the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships Tuesday.
Overall, the men's team finished eighth with 30 points scored while the women's team scored 17 points to finish 11
th, just ahead of Coastal Carolina.
The final day of championship competition started and ended on the podium with the Trojans in maroon receiving silver starting with
Christian Matamoros's school record in the high jump and ended with the men's 4x400m relay team running the seventh-fastest time in school history.
Matamoros cleared 6-11 (2.11m) to set a new school record and score eight points for the Trojans to start the day.
Then the 4x400m relay team of
Caleb Chevis,
Phillip Anderson,
Jalen Black and
Elijah Wright combined for a time of 3:18.40 to claim the silver medal, posting the seventh-fastest time in school history. Wright made his second appearance on the track Tuesday after running a personal best time of 47.62 in the 400m to finish fourth.
More Maroon claimed Silver when
Tricia Pierce cleared a school record height of 12-5.5 (3.80m) in the pole vault.
Mia Dunning also set a new school record as her weight throw of 56-0 (17.07m) placed her fifth.
Back on the men's side,
Troy McKnight tied his personal record with a time of 6.87 to finish third and claim bronze in the 60m dash.
The women's 4x400m relay also scored points as the quartet of
Lamiah George,
Aaliyah Lacy,
Ka'Neisha Jackson and
Helensia Green finished sixth with a time of 3:50.72, posting the fifth-fastest time in school history.
The NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to wrap up the indoor season. The outdoor season will begin for the Trojans on March 20-21 at the Rhodes College Invitational.
