ATLANTA – Little Rock shot just 29.4 percent and was limited to single digits in two of the four quarters as the Trojans dropped a 58-43 decision at Georgia State Saturday afternoon.
The loss, depriving Little Rock Head Coach
Joe Foley of his 800
th career win, ended a five-game winning streak for the Trojans.
Sydney Chastain led Little Rock with 13 points but her scoring was a microcosm of a Trojan offense that scored early but cooled off and couldn't reignite. Chastain put in 10 of her 13 points in the opening quarter, a frame in which Little Rock (10-12, 8-3 Sun Belt) shot 46.2 percent. But the Trojans wouldn't shoot higher than 31 percent in any other quarter, dropping to 29.4 percent for the game as a whole.
Little Rock kept it close through three quarters but never really asserted control in the game after the first frame, allowing the Panthers to pull away in the fourth quarter.
Georgia State (6-16, 3-8) recorded their first win over the Trojans since 2014 by shooting 45.7 percent from the floor (21 of 46) and out-rebounding Little Rock, 41-22. Taylor Hosendove led all players with 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds in nearly 38 minutes of playing time.
Chastain was 5-for-7 from the floor but was mostly shut down after the opening quarter. The rest of the Trojan scoring threat was shut down throughout most of the game.
Kyra Collier was held to just three points on 1 of 10 shooting while
Teal Battle also was held into single digits, scoring nine points.
Tori Lasker, who played all 40 minutes, scored nine points on 3-for-7 shooting, all of which came from beyond the arc.
The Trojans, dropping to third in the standings after Coastal Carolina's win over UT Arlington Saturday, return home to host Texas State on Thursday, Feb. 13 with a special tip-off time of 11:30 a.m. in Little Rock's annual School Day game.
