LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 15th time in program history, Little Rock Volleyball has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Team Academic Award, the organization announced Tuesday.
The award, bestowed for the team's academic achievements during the 2019-20 academic year, marks the 10th time in 11 seasons the Trojans have claimed the award. Little Rock first earned the team honor for the 1997-98 academic year.
Little Rock is one of 227 volleyball programs in the nation to receive the team academic award and one of only two in the state of Arkansas alongside Governor's I-40 Showdown rival Central Arkansas. The Trojans are one of nine Sun Belt programs to get recognized along with Appalachian State, Georgia State, Troy and ULM. The 2019-20 accolade marks the 15th such honor for the Trojans.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
