NEW ORLEANS – When
Leigh Maher transferred to Little Rock from LSU, the defensive specialist knew she could make an impact in the Sun Belt Conference. She may not have known that impact would be felt so quickly.
After just one match in a Trojan uniform, Maher was named the Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after registering a career-high 21 digs against Missouri State Sunday afternoon.
Maher added three assists to her tally – another career high – as Little Rock opened its 2020 season.
This is the first conference weekly award Maher has earned in her career.
Little Rock will open its conference schedule this weekend as Louisiana will visit the Jack Stephens Center with a three-match series beginning Friday at 11 a.m. The two teams will also play Friday at 6 p.m. and cap off the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Day, where Trojan fans will get discounts at the team store, signed mini volleyballs and more.
