MANHATTAN, Kan. – Little Rock's
Max Holzmueller opened the action at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in record fashion, registering three personal best marks out of the four first day heptathlon Saturday.
Â
After four events on the opening day Holzmueller is a close second, just 302 points behind Kansas State's Tejaswin Shankar. With 3,036 points to his credit, Holzmueller enters Saturday's final day with a chance to top his previous career-best mark of 4,996 points.
Â
Holzmueller accumulated those points by starting with a personal best 7.27 in the 60m dash then following that with a career-best long jump mark of 23-2.5 (7.07m). His shot put throw of 42-2.75 (12.87m) barely missed out on a personal best mark but he ended the day with another personal best mark, this time clearing the bar at 6-4.75 (1.95m) in the high jump.
Â
Action in the second and final day at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
