Little Rock Stumbles at ULM, Streak Comes to and End

MONROE, La. – Teal Battle and Krystan Vornes both reached double figures but Little Rock was out-shot and out-rebounded in a 62-44 loss at ULM Monday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The loss snaps the Trojans' five-game win streak and a 19-game streak over ULM. Little Rock (13-8, 9-5 Sun Belt) had not previously lost at ULM since March 8, 2014.

Battle's 14 points and Vornes' 11 points weren't nearly enough for the Trojans as ULM (3-17, 1-13) out-paced Little Rock in the second quarter by an 18-5 advantage and never relinquished the lead. The Trojans hit just one field goal in that quarter and one in the fourth, relying on free throws for the rest of the scoring. Both of those quarters saw a single-digit output by Little Rock.

ULM capitalized on hot shooting from long range, hitting 7 of 14 attempts in the game. That effort was led by Linda van Schaik's trio of 3-pointers along with six of eight conversions at the free throw line. van Schaik led the Warhawks with 19 points and added eight rebounds.

Most of the 3-pointers came in that pivotal second quarter where ULM was 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. A 16-1 run comprised most of the quarter, a run in which ULM hit all three of those treys.

Trailing 30-22, Little Rock came out of halftime once again inspired, reeling off an 8-2 run thanks to a pair of Vornes layups. However, ULM's Gara Beth Self hit yet another 3-pointer for the hosts, shifting the momentum back towards the Warhawks.

If that momentum wasn't going Little Rock's way in the third quarter, it was in full force against the Trojans in the fourth. Little Rock was out-scored 17-6 with four of those points coming off free throws.

Little Rock will now have to regroup for the final two games of the season, a series at Louisiana starting on Friday, Feb. 26.
