LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock looks to wrap up the regular season and end the year on a high note as the Trojans head south for a two-game series at Louisiana starting Friday evening in Lafayette.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Trey Schaap will have the call on the Little Rock Trojans Radio Network (920AM The Sports Animal).
Series History
- This will be the 39th and 40th meetings between Little Rock and Louisiana with the Trojans holding a 26-12 advantage in the all-time series.
- Louisiana claimed the earlier meeting in Little Rock with a 54-45 decision.
- The teams split two games last season with Little Rock claiming the regular season meeting (59-44) while a last-second 3-pointer kept Little Rock from forcing overtime in the Sun Belt Tournament pod hosted in Lafayette.
- The Trojans have won 14 of the last 18 meetings while the four losses in that stretch have only been by an average of six points.
Five Things to Know
- Lots on the Line
Despite Monday's loss, Little Rock still has a chance at a first round bye in the Sun Belt Tournament but the Trojans need some help and from an unlikely place. Little Rock needs to win one more game than UTA this weekend meaning the Trojans are looking for Arkansas State to upend the Mavs.
- For Louisiana, too
While Little Rock is fighting for a bye, Louisiana has plenty on the line as well. The Ragin' Cajuns have already clinched the West Division title but have a half-game lead over Troy for the Sun Belt's regular season championship. With Troy playing at Coastal Carolina this weekend, Louisiana needs hold serve in order to claim the crown.
- Death. Taxes. Joe Foley's Defense.
If there's one thing coaches don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense. If there's two things they don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense twice in the same weekend. That is because Little Rock and Joe Foley have set the standard when it comes to the Trojans defensive efforts, ranking in the top two of the conference in 10 of the past 11 years in scoring defense while ranking in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense in nine of past 11 years.
- Come and Take It
Little Rock's style of play early on this season has been its own anti-theft device. Trojan opponents have recorded just 5.1 steals per game, a low rate that ranks Little Rock seventh nationally. Additionally, Little Rock opponents have just a 6.6% steal rate (percentage of Trojan possessions where the ball was stolen), a mark that ranks 20th in the country.
- A Case of the Mondays
Little Rock has compiled an 0-2 record when playing on Mondays this year with a loss against Louisiana (54-45) on Monday, Jan. 25 and then a shocking loss at ULM (62-44) on Monday, Feb. 22. This trend does not bode well for the Trojans should they reach the Sun Belt Tournament Championship Game, which is slated for Monday, March 8.
