LAFAYETTE, La. – Teal Battle scored a game-high 16 points and
Angelique Francis grabbed a career-high nine rebounds but even-quarter scoring woes once again plagued Little Rock in a. 60-32 loss at Louisiana Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (14-5, 13-1 Sun Belt) clinched the league's regular season title with the win, courtesy of 30 points in the paint and holding Little Rock to just 24% shooting (12 of 15) in the game.
Â
Jomyra Mathis led Louisiana with 12 points while Ty'Reona Doucet and Kimberly Burton both scored 11 points.
Â
Little Rock (13-10, 9-7) struggled from the field throughout the game, but none more so than in the second and fourth quarters where the Trojans scored five and three points, respectively.
Â
Trailing by 22 at half, the Trojans looked to mount a comeback and slowly started chipping away at the Cajun lead, cutting that deficit to 15 points at the end of the quarter. Doucet struck first in the fourth quarter and
Tia Harvey cut the margin back to 15 with a jump shot less than two minutes into the final quarter. But that would be the last field goal made in the game with only Battle hitting a free throw with less than three minutes to play to wrap up the scoring for Little Rock.
Â
For the second straight game, Little Rock posted an advantage in rebounds (41-34) but matched a season-high 21 turnovers in the game.
Â
Little Rock now turns its attention to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which starts Friday, March 5 in Pensacola, Florida. Having clinched the No. 3 West Division seed yesterday, Little Rock is expected to face No. 6 East Coastal Carolina in the first round of the tournament. The official bracket and pairings are set to be announced Sunday.
