LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Early in the fourth quarter, Texas State cut Little Rock's lead to a one-possession margin. Then the Trojans kicked it into high gear.
Little Rock (10-7, 6-4 Sun Belt) claimed a series win by ending the game on a run that made the 63-49 final the largest margin of the game for the Trojans as Texas State (7-9, 4-7) lost its ninth game in 10 tries at the Jack Stephens Center.
Ky'lie Scott led all scorers with 18 points with a 7-for-12 performance from the field, hitting 4- of 7 shots from 3-point range. Her hot shooting seemed infectious.
As a team, Little Rock shot a season-high 56.8% from the field and an impressive 50% from long range. Texas State shot 37.2% from the field and even that was buoyed by a 64% performance in the third quarter. Remove that third period and the Bobcats shot just 28% in the game.
The fourth quarter domination for the Trojans was similar to Friday's win where Little Rock utilized a balanced attack, this time with the Trojans ending game play with a 15-4 run. Five of the six Trojans that played in the final period scored over the final quarter, led by Scott's five points. Meanwhile the Bobcats only made two field goals in the frame, the last of which came with over five minutes to play.
Texas State was led by Ja'Kayla Bowie's 14 points, 12 of which came in a third quarter offensive spurt that was primarily responsible for keeping the Bobcats within reach.
A day after being limited in her effectiveness on the floor,
Mayra Caicedo engineered eight assists while scoring nine points for the Trojans. She entered the weekend as the national leader in assists but was limited to just three in Friday's win. Her final points, which were also the final points scored of the game, came on a spin move from the elbow before she danced down the paint untouched for the easy layup.
After three consecutive games – and two straight wins – over Texas State, Little Rock will spend next week laser-focused on a different team with two straight match-ups against in-state rival Arkansas State. The two teams will meet Wednesday in Jonesboro before returning to Little Rock for a Saturday contest at the Jack Stephens Center.
