Five Things to Know
- One Last Trip Around the Sun
Little Rock Women's Basketball begins its 23rd and final season in the Sun Belt on Thursday as the Trojans embark on one last trip around the Sun (Belt Conference).
- Trojans in Conference Openers
Little Rock has won seven straight conference openers but its fortunes in the first league game of the season has been a recent wave of success. Overall, Little Rock is 11-15 all-time in conference openers while compiling an 11-11 record in Sun Belt openers. Joe Foley, currently in his 19th season at the helm of the program, has guided Little Rock to an 11-7 mark in league openers. The last time Little Rock lost its conference opener came on Jan. 2, 2014 in San Marcos when Texas State claimed a 50-39 win.
- Keep the Streak Alive
Little Rock enters this week having won four straight home games. Thursday's game will mark Little Rock's first game at the Jack Stephens Center since Dec. 4 when the Trojans hosted Central Arkansas.
- Little Rock Stands Alone...
as the only team from the state of Arkansas to win at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym this season. The Trojans shut the Dores down in a 56-40 win on Nov. 12. Overall this season (men and women combined), Vanderbilt is 2-1 against teams from Arkansas with both the Commodore men and women registering wins in league play.
- If Ya Can't Beat 'Em...
Watch them leave? As Little Rock embarks on its final season of Sun Belt Conference play, the other teams must be releasing a sigh of relief. That is because since the Jack Stephens Center opened (2005-06 season), Little Rock (men and women combined) has won more Sun Belt Championships (regular season, tournament and combined) than any other Sun Belt program over that time frame. That includes other programs that have already left the Sun Belt Conference. Little Rock has won 22 overall combined championships (regular season and tournament with Middle Tennessee following with 14. The Trojans have won 15 division and regular season championships while Middle Tennessee follows with nine. Little Rock has won seven Sun Belt Tournament championships in the time with Western Kentucky following with six.
