Five Things to Know
- Â One Last Trip Around the Sun
Little Rock Women's Basketball begins its 23rd and final season in the Sun Belt on Thursday as the Trojans embark on one last trip around the Sun (Belt Conference).
- Effective Defense ... It's What Little Rock Plays
Defense does still exist in the Sun Belt and it usually comes with "Little Rock" written across the chest. Trojan opponents are averaging 58.7 points per game (ranking 65th in the nation) while Troy is allowing an average of 71.6 ppg, ranking 305th in the nation.Â
- Mayra Ranks 10th
After her five-assist performance against App State on Jan. 15, Mayra Caicedo (in just her second season with Little Rock's Team) moved into 10th place all-time at Little Rock in career assists (235). That ties the 235 career assists recorded by Heather Morris from 2003-04 and 2005-06. Next up on the list and ranking ninth is Ka'Nesheia Cobbins, who recorded 271 assists from 2011-15.
- Farewell Tour
Little Rock enters Thursday's game having four of the last eight and five of the last 10 in the series against Troy. While the series record in recent games is even, the other Trojans trail Little Rock's Team in overall championships since Troy entered the Sun Belt and moved the conference to a two-Trojan league.
- Familiar Surroundings
When Little Rock makes its trip to Troy and South Alabama this week, the Maroon and Silver will be in a familiar setting although the same can't exactly be said for the other side. That is because over the last decade Little Rock has been forced to travel to Troy and South Alabama in three separate seasons without a return trip from Troy or USA. In fact, this year's meeting will be the fourth time that scheduling occurrence has happened. But the number of times Troy and South Alabama have visited Little Rock without a return? Zero. All other seasons saw the teams play a home-and-home schedule.
