MOBILE, Ala. – Little Rock had three players score a game-high 15 points and led wire-to-wire in a dominant 74-52 win at South Alabama Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Center.
Â
Angelique Francis,
Sali Kourouma and
Mayra Caicedo each dropped 15 on the box score while
Dariel Johnson added 10 points as the Trojans (8-6, 3-1 Sun Belt) remained atop the Sun Belt standings after sweeping the week's action in Alabama. South Alabama (8-9, 2-2) lost their seventh straight home game against Little Rock.
Â
The Trojans used a 39-26 rebounding advantage and scored 40 points in the paint to control the game in the lane on both ends, grabbing 17 offensive rebounds in the process.
Raziya Potter, whose nine points and eight rebounds barely missed out on a double-double, grabbed six offensive boards.
Â
Little Rock started out red-hot from long range, hitting 4 of 7 shots from beyond the arc including a trio from Caicedo. Then entering the second half and holding a 13-point lead after the intermission, the Trojans worked an inside game with 11 of their 14 made baskets in the second half coming in the lane. The Jaguars couldn't stop the Trojan attack from any point on the floor.
Â
All nine Trojans that dressed out scored points, including
Hailey Hohenecker registering her first career collegiate points on a layup late in the game.
Â
Francis tied a career-high with her 15 points while also drawing two of the four charges the Jaguars were called for. Caicedo set new career-highs in points (15) and 3-pointers made (3). Kourouma, who was limited to one point at Troy on Thursday, returned to her regular form with her 15-point performance.
Â
For the second straight game, Little Rock forced 20 turnovers out of their opponent and Little Rock scored 23 points off those turnovers.
Â
South Alabama was led by Nadia Howard's 11 points while Jaylin Powell scored 10.
Â
Little Rock now returns home to host Texas State (8-11, 3-4 Sun Belt) on Thursday, Jan. 27 with an 11:30 a.m. tip in the program's annual School Day game.
