Five Things to Know
  1. Death. Taxes. Joe Foley's Defense.
If there's one thing coaches don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense. If there's two things they don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense twice in the same season. That is because Little Rock and Joe Foley have set the standard when it comes to the Trojans defensive efforts, ranking in the top two of the conference in 10 of the past 11 years in scoring defense while ranking in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense in nine of past 11 years. The 2021-22 season was no different as Little Rock led the Sun Belt and ranked 49th in the nation in scoring defense. Look for the Trojans to repeat that same success this year.
  2. We Don't Share Well with Others
Little Rock doesn't like to share with others. That is why opponents are finding out it is difficult to get their hands on the ball. Little Rock opponents averaged just 6.0 steals per game last year, a mark that ranked Little Rock 31st in the nation. Meanwhile opponents recorded just a 7.5% steal rate, a mark that ranked 34th in the nation.
  3. Home, Sweet, Home
Thursday is Homecoming on University Avenue, and the Trojans are trying to capitalize on that home court advantage. Little Rock is fond of the Jack Stephens Center and it isn't a place at which teams prefer to play. That's because the Trojans finished the 2021-22 season with an 8-4 home record. That's a remarkable stretch considering talented teams like Auburn, Coastal Carolina and Memphis have all left The Jack disappointed.
  4. New Faces
Get to the Jack early Thursday and get your game program. Little Rock's roster boasts eight newcomers, and several are expected to see the floor early on in this year's campaign. And if you know anything about the legendary Joe Foley, it's that he's excited to teach the game of basketball to new players, all of which are bound to be athletic and have the chance to make impressive plays.
  5. But We'll See Some Familiar Ones Too
Because Arkansas-Pine Bluff, prolific users of the transfer portal, not only has eight players with playing experience from different NCAA institutions but two of those came from the Capital City. Raziya Potter and Azaria Robinson were both on the 2021-22 Trojans roster before making their way down to Pine Bluff.
