LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Women's Basketball will face its fifth (and final) Southeastern Conference opponent of the regular season Thursday evening when the Trojans tip-off at Alabama on the SEC Network.
Tyler Denning (play-by-play) and Holly Warlick (analyst) will have the call on the SEC Network from Tuscaloosa as the Trojans try to upend an SEC team for the second time this year. Little Rock claimed a 42-38 win over Texas A&M on Dec. 6 to beat a team from the prestigious league for the third consecutive year.
Meanwhile, Alabama enters Thursday's contest on a five-game winning streak with the game starting a five-game homestand for the Crimson Tide.
Fans in Little Rock can also listen to the game on the Little Rock Sports Network (920 AM The Sports Animal) with Trey Schaap on the call.
Series History
- This will be just the second meeting all-time between Alabama and Little Rock. The Tide won the only prior meeting.
- That previous meeting came in the Second Round of the 2017 WNIT. Alabama used a fourth quarter rally for the 55-53 win over the Trojans.
- Little Rock is the first and only Ohio Valley Conference team on Alabama's schedule this season.
Five Things to Know
- Familiar Faces
Alabama's coaches won't need to question if they are having a Deja Vu moment when they face Little Rock and Jaiyah Harris-Smith because they have, in fact, seen Harris-Smith before. Playing for Ole Miss last season, Harris-Smith saw two minutes of action on the floor against the Crimson Tide. And sure, the Trojans haven't faced Alabama since the 2017 WNIT, but that doesn't mean there won't be a familiar face on the Crimson Tide roster. Alabama's JaMya Mingo-Young has faced the Trojans before ... while she was at Mississippi State. Mingo-Young had two points and one rebound in 17 minutes while playing for the Bulldogs when Little Rock took on Mississippi State in Starkville on Dec. 29, 2019. Mingo-Young also had one assist and four turnovers in that game.
- Faith(ful)Lee
Faith Lee was recognized by the Ohio Valley Conference on Dec. 13 as she was named the league's Co-Freshman of the Week, splitting the honor with Southeast Missouri's Alecia Doyle. Lee shot nearly 59% from the field last week as Little Rock toppled a Southeastern Conference team for the third straight year by shutting down Texas A&M in a 42-38 win at the Jack Stephens Center. Her 58.8% mark from the field was the fourth-best among all OVC players last week as she averaged 10.0 points per game. Lee averaged 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game as the Trojans split the week's action, leading Little Rock at Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon with a game-high 12 points.
- You've Gotta Have Faith
George Michael knew what he was talking about in his song lyrics. That's because Little Rock's Faith Lee is having a strong start to her freshman season. She enters this game ranked 23rd nationally and third in the OVC among freshmen by averaging 4.0 two-point field goals made per game. Meanwhile her 9.6 ppg ranks her 68th nationally and third in the OVC among all freshmen. She is one of only 78 freshmen in the country to be currently averaging 9.0 points or more per game.
- It Just Means More ... For the Third Straight Year
They call him the "SEC Slayer." That is as accurate of a description for Little Rock Head Coach Joe Foley as one can get without calling them the GOAT. As he guided the Trojans to a 42-38 win over Texas A&M on Dec. 6, 2022, it put Little Rock's Team in lonely company as the Trojans are the only program to beat SEC teams in non-conference play over the past three consecutive seasons.
- Could It Happen Again?
When Little Rock beat Auburn on Nov. 24, 2021, that win was big but wasn't necessarily a first. With that win over Vanderbilt already on the books, the Trojans' victory over Auburn marked the third time in program history that Little Rock has registered multiple wins over Power 5 teams in a single season. It first happened in 2008 (Oklahoma State, at Ole Miss) and then again in 2014 (at LSU, Oklahoma). With a win over Texas A&M already in the books this season, Little Rock looks to accomplish that feat for a fourth time in program history.
