Five Things to Know
- Rebounding From A to Z
Little Rock junior Azaria Robinson broke a 41-year old school record on Feb. 8 when she hauled in 22 rebounds in a win over Philander Smith. Robinson's mark broke the old school record of 21 boards set by Kay Gathright on Jan. 27, 1981 over the University of the Ozarks, a mark she matched a few weeks later againt Philander Smith as well on Feb. 17, 1981.But it wasn't just Robinson in that game. Dariel Johnson brought down 16 boards (one shy of her career high) and the Trojans as a team registered 52 total rebounds - the most a Little Rock team has recorded since 2016 (51 at Tulsa on Dec. 18, 2016).
- Punished for Mistakes
Teams that face Little Rock are often forced into mistakes and then punished for them. Trojan opponents are averaging 18.0 turnovers per game (a mark that ranks Little Rock 74th in the nation) and have a turnover rate of 22.8%, ranking Little Rock 39th nationally. Then the Trojans turn those turnovers into points and find success with that formula. Entering this game, Little Rock is 10-2 and has 10 wins in 19 games when scoring more or the same amount of points off turnovers as their opponents.
- Bye, Bye, Bye (Bye)
More than just immortal lyrics from *Nsync, with the Sun Belt approaching the last few weeks of the season, all eyes are on the byes. The top four seeds in the 2022 Sun Belt Tournament in Pensacola will receive a first round bye. Little Rock enters this game in a tie for fourth with App State but the Mountaineers have the tiebreaker advantage over the Trojans.
- It's All About Balance
And Trojan opponents are struggling to find it this year. That is because teams that face Little Rock this season have a 0.55 assist-to-turnover ratio, a mark that ranks Little Rock 16th in the nation.
- Controlling the Play
Little Rock opponents are finding it hard to move the ball against the Trojans (this really is no surprise to us here in The Rock). Trojan opponents are averaging just 9.8 assists per game, a mark that ranks 16th in the nation for Little Rock's defense. This is notable considering Arkansas State ranks 123rd nationally in assists per game (13.7) and has one of the nation's worst assisted shot rate (50.4%), ranking 276th.
