Jake Wright Named To Buster Posey Award Watch List

Junior has started all 10 games for the Trojans, including nine at catcher

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock junior catcher Jake Wright has been named to the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, announced by The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

The award is given annually to the top Division-I collegiate catcher, as 77 players were nominated for this year's honor. The semifinalists will be announced on May 19, with finalists slated to be released on June 7 with the final vote among the national committee occurring during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced on June 29.

Wright has started nine of the Trojans' 10 games at catcher this season with the other start coming at the DH position. The Benton native is batting .222 with a double and two home runs, tied for second on the team with 10 runs batted in. Wright boasts a .417 slugging percentage and a .326 on base percentage.

Defensively, Wright has solid behind the plate, gunning down four runners on eight stolen base attempts this season. He has a 1.000 fielding percentage and has been part of three plays at the plate, keeping three opponent runs from making it onto the scoreboard.

Wright and the rest of the Trojans are set to begin a four game weekend series against North Alabama, beginning this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Gary Hogan Field. Game two will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. with a Sunday doubleheader on tap with first pitch at 1 p.m.
