Little Rock Adds Two Transfers to Women’s Basketball Program

Nikki Metcalfe, Jaiyah Smith are four-year transfers joining the Trojans

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Head Women's Basketball Coach Joe Foley announced the addition of two transfers to the Trojans for the upcoming season as Nikki Metcalfe and Jaiyah Smith will don the Maroon and Silver.

Metcalfe heads to the Capital City after two years at Arkansas Tech while Jaiyah Smith joins the Trojans after a year at Ole Miss.

In her two seasons at Arkansas Tech, Metcalfe averaged 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.25 blocks per game and tied the program's single game record for blocks with 11 rejections recorded in a single game against Harding. She scored 253 points last season for the Golden Suns, twice scoring a season-high 16 points. She joins Little Rock's Team with one final year of collegiate eligibility.

"Nikki brings four years of playing college basketball experience to our team," Foley said. "She is a big that is very versatile that can score and defend inside as well as being able to step out on the floor and shoot the basketball.  We are very excited to have Nikki as a member of our team."

Smith spent last year at Ole Miss where she appeared in 18 games coming off the bench as Ole Miss went 23-9 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Smith grabbed a season-best three rebounds twice, first at Vanderbilt and then against New Orleans and twice dished out three assists, again against New Orleans and also against Texas Tech, against whom she scored her first collegiate field goal. She joins Little Rock's Team with three years remaining of eligibility.

"We are very excited to add Jaiyah to our basketball team," Foley said. "She is a point guard with Division I experience in the Southeastern Conference and will bring valuable experience to our team. She is a team leader and will help us on both ends of the basketball floor."

The duo joins five other newcomers on Little Rock's roster for the 2022-23 season, the Trojans' first in the Ohio Valley Conference. They will combine with five returners on a team that has advanced to the semifinals of their conference tournament in 15 of the past 16 years and are guided by Foley, whose 833 wins ranks third in the nation among active Division I head coaches.
