Little Rock Volleyball Travels I-40 for Pair of Showdowns

Trojans to face UCA, UAPB and Memphis this weekend

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Volleyball will travel East on I-40 to Memphis this weekend for a pair of showdowns, primarily for the Bluff City Showdown tournament hosted by Memphis.

LIVE STATS | MATCH NOTES

Before the Trojans can take on anyone from the Volunteer State, Little Rock will face Central Arkansas Friday morning in a non-points deciding battle of the Governor's I-40 Showdown presented by Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield. Little Rock's Team will then face Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday afternoon before taking on host Memphis Saturday at Noon.

Live stats will be available for all three matches.

Three Things to Know
  1. We Take Our Coffee Without Sugar (Bears)
The Trojans will face the Sugar Bears at 9 a.m. on Friday morning to kickoff the Bluff City Showdown and for that, Little Rock would prefer to take its coffee without sugar. That first serve time marks the earliest time the Trojans will begin a match since a 9 a.m. first serve on Aug. 25, 2018 when Little Rock topped Lamar, 3-0, at the Jacksonville State Invitational in Jacksonville, Alabama.
  2. Taking I-40 to Face I-40
Little Rock and Central Arkansas annually play in what is known as the Governor's I-40 Showdown and when the Trojans and Sugar Bears face off on Friday morning in Memphis, both will have traveled well East for the latest installment of the Showdown. While Friday's match will be the 11th meeting between the two programs, it won't be the last this year. Little Rock is set to host UCA at the Jack Stephens Center on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in the battle that will determine who claims the three points awarded in the annual series.
  3. Just Around Across the River Bend
There's no need to feel homesick in your freshman year, at least if you are Daedrianna Cail. This weekend's trip to Memphis for the Bluff City Showdown will nearly mark a homecoming for the freshman as this weekend's matches will take place less than 20 miles from her hometown of Marion, Arkansas. While at Marion, Cail was a multi-sport star, receiving all-state volleyball honors earned all-conference honors all four years. She was named AVCA All-Region as well as to the All-Arkansas Preps Volleyball Team and was a two-time all-state basketball player (nobody tell Joe Foley that).
