TOPEKA, Kan. – Little Rock freshman
Ragen Hodge cleared 5-1.25 (1.56m) to win a gold medal in just her second collegiate meet while
Falon Short's mark is the seventh-best in school history as action at the Washburn Open got underway Friday.
Â
A true freshman from Oklahoma, Hodge posted an improvement of nearly three inches and won a jump-off to claim gold in her second appearance as a collegian. That led a successful day for Trojan jumpers as
Falon Short received silver on the men's side after clearing 6-4.75 (1.95m), the seventh-best mark in school history.
Â
In the men's triple jump, Little Rock finished 3-4-5 with
Jordan Wallace leading the way. An NCAA Outdoor Prelims qualifier last year, Wallace earned bronze with a mark of 48-0.75 (14.65m). That jump currently stands fifth in the OVC this season.
Â
Closely following Wallace was
Dion Murombe, who jumped 47-10.75 (14.60m) to finish fourth while Short finished fifth, jumping 47-7.75 (14.52m). Short's mark now ranks him tied for sixth in the triple jump in school history and seventh in the OVC's performer's list this year.
Â
On the track,
Landri Schreier's 200m time of 24.87 ranks fourth in school history as she finished fifth in the race.
Takia Palmer posted the fifth-best 60m dash time in school history as her time of 7.68 sent her to Saturday's finals.
Jaelyn Tucker, running 7.87 in the 60m qualifying round, also advanced.
Â
Action continues Saturday with running events beginning at 11 a.m. and field events starting at 1 p.m.
