BATH, Mich. – The Trojans had a strong showing for day one of the Bath Regional and sit tied for fifth after the opening 18 at Eagle Eye Golf Club. Little Rock shot a 5-under 279, tying them with Oregon and placing them four strokes behind fourth place Texas (9-under 275).
On the individual side, Jansen Smith represents Little Rock in the top-5, tied for fifth with a 4-under 67 and is joined in the top-20 by Nico Horder, who's 2-under 69 has him in a 9-way tie for 20th. Anton Albers is even through the first 18 holes, tying him for 41st.
Monday's impressive team showing by the eight-seed Trojans was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the island green 17th hole by Magnus Lomholt. Hole 17 is a par-3 modeled after the iconic 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. Lomholt was one of only two players to notch a hole-in one for the day and marked the second eagle for the Trojans, making them the only team with two. Lomholt concluded the round at 1-over 72, tied with teammate Archie Smith for 44th place.
Six-seed Georgia delivered in major upset fashion in round one, posting an 18-under 266 to lead the field, followed by ten-seed host Michigan State and Illinois who are tied for second with a 12-under 272. Texas is then in fourth, with Little Rock and Oregon tied for fifth, just one stroke ahead of Florida (4-under 280). Fifth through tenth place are separated by just five strokes, making day two crucial for teams to stay in championship contention.
Tuesday's second round will be a tad different for Little Rock as the team will tee off from hole ten, not one as they did for Monday's first round. Tee times will begin at 7:00 a.m. CT, with Lomholt kicking it off for the Trojans at 7:30 a.m. CT with the rest of the squad teeing off in 11-minute increments leading up to Jansen Smith at 9:14 a.m. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
