LITTLE ROCK – After a strong performance in the classroom throughout the 2022-23 academic year, the Little Rock baseball program received the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award on Wednesday.
Little Rock posted a 3.36 grade-point-average as a team in the Spring 2023 semester, making it 19 consecutive semesters above a 3.00 for the Trojans and matching their GPA posted in the Fall 2022 semester. Six student-athletes notched a perfect 4.00 in the fall, joined by one more player in the spring.
Little Rock joined fellow Ohio Valley Conference schools Eastern Illinois and Lindenwood on a list that featured 128 Division-I programs. View the entire ABCA release here.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2022-23 academic year. Over 300 high school programs and more than 450 collegiate programs were recognized this year.
The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.
