Little Rock boosted its roster for future seasons with the signing of San Antonio native Rakiya Nelson, the program announced this morning. Nelson, a senior at Churchill High School, is the defending Defensive Player of the Year in District 28-6A, averaging more than two blocks per game. She has also scored more than 1,300 points in her high school career for head coach Jamie Grams.

"Rakiya showed up on our radar in June and when we got to see more and more tape and got to know her and her family, we felt we were a great match," Little Rock head coach
Steve Wiedower said. "She's a very talented player and somebody our fans will embrace. She's a great fit for the program and we're excited to have her as part of our basketball family."
Â
In six games this season, Nelson is averaging 19.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.8 blocks per game for Churchill, who is ranked among the Top 20 teams in the state of Texas. Nelson is currently ranked No. 54 in the Texas Class of 2025.

"I'm very excited for Rakiya and Little Rock as they will complete each other in their next journey," said Grams. "Rakiya brings an incredible skillset and competitive spirit that will prove well for Little Rock. She's a relentless slasher, a force in transition and a versatile defender. Her ability to shoot beyond the arc and incredible footwork with the ball really sets her apart."
