Little Rock Women's Basketball returns Wednesday when the Trojans tip off the 2024-25 season against Central Baptist College (NAIA) at the Jack Stephens Center. Game time is 7 pm and live streaming is available on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on Sports Animal 920 AM. Tomorrow's game marks the collegiate head coaching debut of
Steve Wiedower, who took first chair for the program during the summer after 15 years as the top assistant to Joe Foley, who retired in July.
WE'RE BACK!
Little Rock returns seven letterwinners from last year's team that finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference, including All-OVC guard
Jayla Brooks (9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals), leading scorer
Faith Lee (14.5 points), and the versatile
Sug Williams and
Jordan Holman. The Trojans also return
Mesi Triplett,
Annemarie Batista and
Emerald Parker, who redshirted her freshman season.
NEW FACES
Little Rock will have five new players on the roster this season with four transfers and one freshman. Juniors
Alaina Payne (Fort Worth, Tex.),
Jamyia Bowen (Shannon, Miss.) and
Perina Leime (Melbourne, Australia) are joined by sophomore
Ashley Lester (Athens, Ga.) and freshman
Brenna Burk, a guard from Russellville, Ark.
SERIES HISTORY
Although the two schools are separated by just 31 miles, this is the first-ever meeting between the Trojans and Mustangs. Little Rock last faced an NAIA opponent in 2022 when it beat Philander Smith.
CENTRAL BAPTIST – FIRST LOOK
The Mustangs are 1-1 overall, not including a 117-60 exhibition loss at ULM on Monday night. Sophomore guard Raigan Head leads the Mustangs with 23 points per game on 37% shooting and 13 rebounds per contest. Aliya Grotjohn is putting up 17 points per game this season.
