When
Jayla Brooks hit a layup with 4:58 to play in Thursday's conference meeting with Morehead State, it put the Trojans up by a dozen and plenty of confidence that they'd be able to hold their own down the stretch. Unfortunately, they wouldn't score again and the visiting Eagles would end the contest on a 15-0 run to stun Little Rock and hand the Trojans a 50-47 loss at the Jack Stephens Center.
Â
Faith Lee led the Trojans (9-15 overall, 8-5 OVC) with 14 points and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds but made just 5-of-25 shot attempts.
Trinity Hudson posted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, and
Jordan Holman grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to go with six points off the bench. Hudson's point and rebound totals are both career-best numbers. Veronica Charles and Katie Novik each scored 13 points to lead the Eagles, while Blessing King pulled down 11 rebounds.
Â
Little Rock's 49 rebounds were the most for the team in a single game this season. It was also the first game two different players posted double-doubles and the first time this season more than one player had 10 or more rebounds. Thursday's +15 rebound margin is Little Rock's largest of the year. However, the Trojans also turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 14 points for the Eagles, and Little Rock made just 9-of-20 shots from the free throw line. The Trojans finished 18-of-55 from the floor (32.7 percent), including 6-of-23 in the second half and just 2-of-9 in the fourth period.
Â
During the last half of the fourth period, while the Eagles were making five of their last seven field goal attempts down the stretch, the Trojans missed their last five shots and committed five critical turnovers. Morehead State had made just 11-of-46 shots (23.9 percent) but came up big in the fourth period, shooting 53.3 percent while making 8-of-15. The Eagles had made just one field goal and scored three points in the opening quarter and made just 4-of-25 in the first half, falling behind 27-13 at halftime. Little Rock led by as many as 17 points late in the first half.
Â
Little Rock will be on its home floor again Saturday at 1 pm when the Trojans host first-place Southern Indiana (17-6, 12-1). The Screaming Eagles beat Little Rock, 58-48, back on Jan. 18 in Evansville, Ind.
