Little Rock women fall at Lindenwood, slip to sixth in OVC standings

ST. CHARLES, Missouri — The Little Rock women's basketball team lost its footing in the race for a top seed at the upcoming OVC Championships with Saturday's 61-54 loss at Lindenwood's Hyland Arena. The Trojans fell out of a three-way tie for third place and into sixth place by way of a head-to-head loss to Morehead State.

Little Rock (10-16, 9-7) turned the ball over 20 times and missed 14 free throws (12-of-26), helping the Lions (7-19, 5-11) get their first win over the Trojans in four tries. Lindenwood also took advantage of 34 free throw attempts – 30 of those in the second half – and 18 free throw attempts in the fourth period alone.

The two teams combined for 49 personal fouls and 60 free throw attempts. Lindenwood made just seven shots from the field in the second half but was able to hold off the Trojans by sinking 22-of-30 attempts from the charity stripe.

Jordan Holman led the Trojans in scoring for the second game in a row, pumping in 17 off the bench while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Sug Williams came off the bench to add nine points and four rebounds and Leilani Wimbish-Gay had eight points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Faith Lee – Little Rock's leading scorer at 15 per game – was held to just two points.

Little Rock held a 26-3 advantage in bench scoring and outscored Lindenwood 40-24 in the paint but could not overcome the disparity at the free throw line in the second half, which made any hopes of a rally seemingly impossible.

The Trojans are home for the final two games of the regular season – Thursday against Tennessee State at 5 pm, and next Saturday against Tennessee Tech at 1 pm.
