CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Little Rock men's track and field team completed an Ohio Valley Conference Championship sweep as the Trojans took home the program's first-ever outdoor crown, while the women finished in second place at the final day of competition at the OVC Outdoor Championships. J.P. Behnke was named the OVC Men's Coach of the Year, while
Andrew Payton earned OVC Track Athlete of the Year honors.
FINAL RESULTS
The Little Rock Men scored 220 points to take the championship. Eastern Illinois placed second with 190.5 points, while Southeast Missouri placed third in 142.5. For the women, Southeast Missouri won the women's title with 197 points. Little Rock scored 147.5 for second place, while Western Illinois placed third with 114 points.
FIELD EVENTS
Aaliyah Mathis was the top Trojan finisher in the shot put placing third with a throw of 45-3 (13.79m) to contribute six points.
Janae Largins placed fourth for five points with a distance of 45-1 (13.74m).
Kiara Moss placed tenth with a throw of 41-05 (12.51m), while
Alison Stephens placed 12th with a distance of 39-1.25 (11.92m).
In the men's shot put,
Casey Griffin placed 14th with a throw of 40-11.25 (12.48m).
Matthew Fox placed second in the javelin recording a distance of 203-10 (62.14m) to contribute eight points.
Tyler Moore placed ninth (156-11, 47.83m),
Ethan Sorrels placed tenth (150-7, 45.89m), and
Patrick Young placed 12th (145-4, 44.29m).
Largins also competed in the women's javelin placing 13th with a throw of 68-9 (20.95m).
In the women's triple jump,
Alexia Washington placed second with a jump of 40-8.5 (12.41m) to earn eight points, while
Layloni Watson placed third recording a jump of 40-1 (12.22m) for six points.
Carolin Bielert placed 13th with a jump of 37-10.75 (11.55m), and
Crystal Trowers recorded a jump of 37-6.5 (11.44m) for 14th place.
Dion Murombe placed ninth in the men's triple jump with a distance of 47-4 (14.43m), while
Falon Short placed 14th with a jump of 44-7.75 (13.61m).
RUNNING EVENTS
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Maliyah Holland,
Takia Palmer,
Makayla Jones, and
Landri Schreier won the event recording a time of 45.94 to rank them sixth in school records and earning ten team points.
In the men's 4x100m relay, the team of
Troy McKnight,
Cogan DeRousselle,
Cameron Jackson, and
Gabriel Torres placed second with a tme of 40.54 to record eight team points.
Payton won the men's 1500m clocking a time of 3:52.03 for ten points, while
Nicholas Newby placed third in 3:54.08 for six points.
Matthew Tyeskie won the men's 110m hurdles breaking the school record he set the day before and the OVC Championship meet record set in 1999 with a time of 13.70 to record ten points. DeRousselle placed second with a personal best time of 13.84 for eight points, while
John Sanderson placed sixth ith a personal best time of 14.38 for three points.
In the men's 400m,
Frankie Grey won the event with a personal best time of 46.96 to contribute ten team points, while
Juan Garza placed fourth in 47.81 for five points.
Schreier won the women's 100m recording a time of 11.68 for ten points.
Takia Palmer placed fourth in 11.82 for five points, and Jones recorded a personal best time of 11.88 for fifth place, four team points, and an eighth place ranking in Little Rock records.
In the women's 200m, Schreier was once again the top Trojan finisher placing second in 23.95 for eight points, while
Takia Palmer placed third with a personal best time of 24.11 to earn her six points and rank her fifth in school records.
Jackson won the men's 100m with a time of 10.13 to earn ten points and to break the OVC Championships meet record that was set in 1994. McKnight placed with a personal best time of 10.30 for eight points, while Torres placed fifth in 10.49 for four points.
In the men's 200m, Jackson once again finished first with a time of 20.62 for tne points. DeRousselle recorded a personal best time of 20.67 for second place and eight points, while Grey placed fourth in 21.17 for five points, McKnight contributed three points placing sixth in 21.30.
Devin Stevens was the top Trojan finisher in the 800m placing third with a time of 1:533.44 for six points. Newby placed fifth in 1:53.99 for four points.
In the women's 400m hurdles,
Alexia Allen placed fifth clocking in a time of 1:03.53 for four points.
Tyler Moore won the men's 400m hurdles clocking a personal best time of 52.44 for ten points, and
Teylen Patterson placed sixth in 54.09 for three points.
Marcie Cudworth placed first in the women's 5000m recording a time of 17:19.32 for ten points, while
Kyla Lochtefeld placed eighth in 18:03.67 for one point.
Zach McPhee recorded a time of 14:44.44 for a second place finish in the men's 5000m and eight points.
Spencer Cardinal placed fifth in 14:55.21 for four points, and
Andrew Payton placed sixth in 14:59.46 to contribute three points.
The women's 4x400m relay team of
Zoa Adams,
Talia Palmer,
Takia Palmer, and
Jasmine Torres placed third in 3:47.82 for six points.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Patterson,
Chase Peterson, Stevens, and Garza placed seventh with time of 3:20.69 for two points.
