FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four Trojans have qualified for the NCAA Championships as Little Rock heads to Fayetteville for the NCAA West First Round on May 27-30. Senior
Falon Short, junior
Matthew Tyeskie, sophomore
Braeden Bell, and freshman
Jeremiah Patton all earned qualification spots.
Short qualified in the long jump with a mark of 7.54 meters. Tyeskie qualified in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78. Bell qualified in the 100 meters with a time of 10.25, while Patton qualified in the 200 meters with a time of 20.57.
All of these times have been their best time/mark all season.
"It means a lot to qualify for regionals as a freshman because it shows all the hard work is paying off. I'm really excited for the opportunity to compete at a high level," said Patton.
Freshman
Jordan Morgan would have qualified for the women's triple jump, but she will not participate due to injury.
The NCAA splits the United States into two regions, East and West, divided by the Mississippi River. The top 48 athletes in each event qualify based on marks and times, though scratches can allow additional athletes to move into the field.
The University of Arkansas will host the West First Round, while the University of Kentucky will host the East First Round. The top 12 athletes in each event following the conclusion of competition on May 30 will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 10-13.
"I'm incredibly excited for these four young men to qualify for the NCAA First Round," said head coach
J.P. Behnke. "This is a goal we talk about and work toward all season, so seeing their hard work pay off at this level is really special. I'm proud of what they've accomplished and excited for the opportunity ahead."
