TORONTO, Ontario, Canada — Little Rock freshman
Dariana Valencia took home a silver medal Sunday as part of the Puerto Rico National Team that competed at the Women's NORCECA U21 Continental Championship from June 27-30. Puerto Rico finished as the runner-up to Team USA at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Center.
Valencia played in all five matches for Puerto Rico, finishing with 160 sets, 22 digs, one block and one ace. Puerto Rico opened the tournament with a 3-2 win against Cuba, then rebounded from a 3-2 loss to the Dominican Republic on June 28 to sweep Costa Rica in straight sets.
In the semifinal match on June 29, Puerto Rico swept host Canada in straight sets before falling to USA on Sunday in the gold medal match.
Valencia completed her freshman season at Little Rock with a team-high 456 assists to go with 218 digs. She recorded 10 double-doubles for the Trojans during the 2023 season and was the Most Valuable Player at the Louisiana Tech Invitational, where the Trojans defeated Grambling in addition to the host school.
