Trojan Women Lose to Lindenwood in Final Seconds

The Lions hit a shot with 1.1 seconds

After erasing an 11-point fourth-quarter lead, the Little Rock women's basketball team lost on a last-second shot to Lindenwood Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Lions secured the 72-70 win when Ellie Bruegemann grabbed a sideline inbound pass that was batted away in the lane and scooped it up and put it in with 1.1 seconds. Little Rock's Faith Lee tried to tie the game following a timeout but her jumper missed leaving the Trojans with the tough loss.
 
Jordan Holman led the Trojans with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Lee scored 12 points and eclipsed the 1,000t-point mark for her career. Mesi Triplett added 11 points and 7 rebounds and Alaina Payne chipped in 10.
 
Little Rock (9-10, 7-3) trailed 50-46 heading into the final quarter, but Lindenwood (12-7, 8-2) added to the lead quickly and led by 11 with 8:12 to play. 
 
The Lions' lead was nine with 4:42 left when Little Rock made its move. Jayla Brooks hit a three-pointer and Holman sank a jumper to drop the lead to four with 3:51 to play.
 
Less than a minute later, Triplett converted on two free throws, and Lindenwood only led 61-59.
 
Payne capped off a 7-0 run with a three-point play, and the Trojans had their first lead of the second half.
 
The lead see-sawed back and forth and with 45 seconds left, Lindenwood owned a 68-67 advantage. 
 
Little Rock turned the ball over, and the Lions had it with 18 seconds, but they turned it over. 
 
Little Rock inbounded the ball at half court and Lee tried a jumper a missed. A foul was called and Holman went to the line and made the first free throw but missed the second one. 
 
Lindenwood called a timeout and inbounded at their end on the sideline. The initial lob pass was knocked away by Triplett to in the lane toward the free throw line, but Bruegemann scooped it up and tossed it in. Less than a second showed on the clock, but the officials adjusted it to 1.1 seconds. The officials also assessed technical fouls to both benches for coming on the court before the game was over. 
 
The extra time did allow Lee to get a good shot off on a sideline out-of-bounds play, but she couldn't convert. 
 
 
The Trojan only led briefly when Holman hit a three-pointer to give them a 3-0 lead. Little Rock trailed 19-13 after the second quarter and by as many as nine in the second half before heading to the locker room at halftime down 33-26.
Brooke Coffey led Lindenwood with 13 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. 
 
 
The Trojans play host to Tennessee State at 5 p.m. Thursday.
