Little Rock Stays Unbeaten at Home, Draws Southern Indiana 1-1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In a tightly contested conference matchup, Little Rock battled to a 1-1 draw against second-place Southern Indiana on Sunday. With the result, the Trojans remain the only unbeaten home team in the Ohio Valley Conference this season.

Little Rock moved to 1-0-3 in conference play, tying Lindenwood for third place with six points apiece. Southern Indiana improved to 2-0-2 and remained in second place, two points ahead of the Trojans.

Game Flow
Both teams came out aggressive from the opening whistle, trading possession and early shots in the first 10 minutes. The Trojans held firm against Southern Indiana's counters, staying composed and creating quality chances of their own. Freshman Clair Silvestro nearly broke through early with a strong run and shot that sailed just high.

Little Rock's pressure paid off midway through the first half. Junior Megan Rogan sent a perfectly placed pass up the field to sophomore Maggie Turner, who delivered a pinpoint cross to sophomore forward Maria Schuller. Schuller finished with precision to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, adding to her league-leading total with her seventh goal of the season.

Southern Indiana came out strong after the break, controlling possession and keeping the ball in the Trojans' defensive half. Sophomore Jetney Cook and senior Amaya Arias anchored the back line, making key stops and challenging every attack.

However, the Screaming Eagles found the equalizer midway through the second half, firing a long-range shot into the top corner to even the score at 1-1. Little Rock continued to push for a game-winner and nearly broke through in the final seconds when Mary Ratcliff's shot off a corner kick went just high.

The draw extended Little Rock's home unbeaten streak to five this season and more than a year overall, with the Trojans' last home loss coming on Sept. 15, 2024. Little Rock has now gone over two years without dropping a home match to an OVC opponent, keeping the Trojans firmly in the hunt near the top of the conference standings.

Post-Game
Sophomore Kaylee Cuff played well in her second start of the season, logging 90 minutes and helping anchor the back line while standout freshman Emily Nahon remains sidelined with an injury. Graduate Jaeda Centeno and sophomore Ruth Barragan provided quality minutes off the bench.

Head coach Kelly Farrell said the team played well in the first half but emphasized the need for a more complete game to compete in the OVC with tough matchups ahead.

"The result is disheartening. I thought the first half was the best half of soccer we played all year so to leave with a tie feels like a loss. We need to figure out a way to put together a full game and carry the confidence that we have when we are ahead through out the entire match. Everyone in the OVC is competitive and less than 90 minutes isn't good enough," said Farrell. "We have two huge challenges this week so we will regroup in training this week to come out on the right side of the results."

Up Next
The Trojans travel to UT Martin on Thursday, Oct. 9, before returning home next Sunday, Oct. 12, to face Morehead State.
