BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Freshman
Jeremiah Patton wasted no time making his mark at Little Rock, earning Ohio Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors after his first collegiate meet as a Trojan.
Patton, a sprinter, competed in the 60 meters and 300 meters on Dec. 6 at the Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge indoor meet. He placed second in the 60 meters with a time of 6.69 in a field largely made up of runners from Southeastern Conference programs, including Tennessee and Kentucky. His mark of 6.69 is tied for fourth in the Little Rock record book.
In the 300 meters, Patton finished second on the team behind fellow freshman
Colter Maya, who broke the school record in the event. Patton clocked a time of 34.80, placing 15th out of 41 competitors. His mark ranks fourth in the Little Rock record book for the 300 meters.
"Honestly, it's a blessing," Patton said. "To earn both OVC Track Athlete and Freshman of the Week after my first race as a Trojan is more than I expected this early. It shows the work I've put in is already starting to pay off."
A native of Memphis, Patton enjoyed a decorated high school career, setting multiple school and state records. He broke the state record in the 60 meters and was part of a 4x100-meter relay team that set the state record four times.

Patton and the Trojans will take a break over the holidays before returning to competition Jan. 24 at the Bob Teel Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, hosted by the University of Missouri.
