EVANSVILLE, Ind. —
Jordan Holman delivered a breakthrough performance, recording the first double-double of the season by a Trojan with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but Little Rock came up short in a 57–40 loss at Southern Indiana on Wednesday night.
The Trojans (4–7, 1–1 OVC) were led by Holman on both ends of the floor, as the senior accounted for more than a quarter of Little Rock's scoring while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Her effort highlighted a night in which Little Rock battled but struggled to find consistent offense against the Screaming Eagles (7–2, 1–0 OVC).
Little Rock shot 30.2 percent from the field (16-of-53) and 2-of-17 from three-point range.
Alaina Payne and
Naomi Smitherman added six points apiece, but the Trojans were unable to generate enough scoring to overcome Southern Indiana's second-quarter surge.
"We had an opportunity to come here and get a win tonight, but give Southern Indiana a lot of credit, they guarded us well and shot the ball really well," head coach
Steve Wiedower said. "When we're not shooting well, we have to learn to attack in different ways. We'll be better next time."
Little Rock stayed competitive early, scoring 15 points in the opening quarter, but Southern Indiana used a strong second period to build a double-digit halftime lead and maintained control throughout the second half.
The Trojans return home Monday, Dec. 22, to host Hendrix at 5 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center. The game will feature Ugly Sweater Night.
