Trojans set to open 2025 baseball season Friday against Evansville

Little Rock Baseball officially returns this weekend when the Trojans host Evansville for a three-game series at Gary Hogan Field, starting with a Friday doubleheader, and concluding with a Sunday matinee. The first of two games tomorrow will begin at 12 pm, with the second game to follow 40 minutes after the opener wraps up. Sunday's finale is slated for a 1 pm first pitch. All three games can be streamed on ESPN+.

Head coach Chris Curry will be keeping an eye on several things when the Trojans – who are replacing the majority of their everyday players in the lineup – take the field for the first time in 2025.

"We need to play clean defense, limit mistakes, and be offensive. We went more station to station last season, but this year we need to be better in our situational hitting," Curry said. "We have five candidates in mind for our weekend rotation. We went with the oldest and most experienced. The others have electric stuff so we're going to piggyback them behind the starters, since they'll be on short pitch counts."

Little Rock enters the 2025 campaign as the reigning Ohio Valley Conference regular season champions, but will have a much different look compared to last year's roster, which finished 32-24 overall. However, the Trojans do return Jackson Wells, who gets the ball as the ace to open the series tomorrow. Brody Bunting is scheduled to start in Friday's second game, with Jack Cline taking the bump Sunday.

Evansville brings a wealth of success with them, having advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals last summer, where the Aces fell to eventual national champion Tennessee in three games.
