It's a day full of festivities at the Jack Stephens Center on Saturday. The Trojans celebrate homecoming as well as senior day for the basketball student-athletes. The last home game of the season has tipoff set for 1 p.m. Trey Schaap has the call on The Sports Animal 920 AM. The game will also be live streamed on ESPN+.
SENIOR DAY
The Trojans will honor seniors,
Mesi Triplett and
Jordan Holman as they play their final home game. Ceremonies will start at the conclusion of the women's game.
Triplett is a forward from Orlando, Fla. She played her freshman year at St. Peterburg College before transferring to Little Rock. In her time at Little Rock, Triplett averages 43.5% shooting from the field with 2.7 rebounds per game. She marked a career-high 12 points this season in the matchup with Arkansas State. Triplett grabbed a career-high four blocks this season against conference opponent Southeast Missouri. She also hit the boards hard, with career-high nine rebounds against SEMO, UT Martin and Auburn.
Jordan Holman is a senior guard from Hugo, Okla. She played her freshman and sophomore years at Northern Oklahoma Community College before making the move to Little Rock. Holman has etched her name in the record books at Little Rock, breaking the steals record that was set back in 1984 with nine steals against Western Illinois earlier this season. In her senior season, Holman has broken her own records in multiple areas. She had a career-high scoring effort with 27 points in this season's matchup with Lindenwood, as well as a career-high 12 rebounds against Arkansas State and career-high four three-pointers made against Lindenwood. She averages 46.2% from the field, 35.3% from the three-point line and averages 4.3 rebounds per game. Holman has started in all games this season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Trojans fought hard for 40 minutes, challenging Ohio Valley Conference leader Lindenwood in the Jack Stephens Center on Thursday night. The Trojans ultimately fell, 60-51.
Holman led Little Rock with 17 points and six rebounds.
Sug Williams and
Faith Lee both contributed nine points, while
Jayla Brooks, Triplett and
Emerald Parker all had four points each. Brooks also had three steals.
Holman tied it up, 43 all, with 8:32 left in the fourth quarter with a drained shot from the three. Holman hit another three-pointer putting the score 49-48, the Trojans just trailing by one with just 5:10 left to play. The Trojans played catch-up in the final minutes but only scored once in the last three minutes of the game. The Lions ultimately pulled away with the win.
The two teams were tied in rebounds with 33. The Trojans fought hard in the paint, outscoring the Lions 36-26.
The Trojans fall to 13-13 overall, 11-6 in conference play. Lindenwood keeps their No. 1 spot with a 19-7 overall record, 15-2 in conference.
LAST TIME OUT VS WESTERN ILLINOIS
Little Rock pulled off a road win at Western Illinois with a 65-60 victory back in January.
Williams led the Trojans with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Holman broke the single-game school record with nine steals and chipped in 15 points. Brooks had 12 points and Lee added 11.
OVC leading scorer Reagan McCowan scored 16 points to lead WIU. The Trojan defense forced 24 turnovers and scored 30 points off those.
THE SERIES
The Trojans and Leathernecks have only met twice, with Little Rock leading the series, 2-0. The two have only met in Macomb, Ill. Saturday's game marks the first meeting at the Jack Stephens Center for the two teams.
