EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After taking the first game of an Ohio Valley Conference series against Southern Indiana Friday night, the Trojans got behind early Saturday morning before losing 10-0 at the USI Baseball Field.
The win was the first for the Screaming Eagles in the regular season between the two teams since Little Rock (10-17, 1-4 OVC) Joined the Ohio Valley Conference two years ago. They had been riding a six-game, regular-season losing streak. USI (11-15, 3-2) did beat Little Rock in the OVC Tournament on a neutral field last season.
The final game of the series is slated for Sunday at an earlier time than scheduled. First pitch has moved to noon to avoid weather later in the afternoon. Saturday's game was moved up five hours early to 11 a.m. to beat the heavy rain predicted.
USI jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, and the Trojans never could get in the game.
The Screaming Eagles added lone runs in the sixth and seventh innings respectively, and three in the eighth.
Jack Cline took the loss for the Trojans pitching 4.1 innings giving up 5 runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Trojan hitters couldn't solve USI hurler Blake Kimball. The junior only gave up three hits while striking out five and walking two.
