NASHVILLE, TENN. – Three Trojans earned Ohio Valley Conference postseason honors the league announced Tuesday.
League sports information directors and coaches voted senior Tuong Gatkek OVC Defensive Player of the Player and junior
Johnathan Lawson earned first-team All-OVC and All-Newcomer Team accolades. Senior
Mwani Wilkinson earned second-team All-OVC recognition.
"All three of those guys have been great players for us this season," Little Rock head coach
Darrell Walker said. "I've said all season that Tuon is the best defensive player in this league. I am happy for him to get this award. It's great for him and our program.
"Johnathan is one of the most complete players in this league and has won two games for us on last-second shots. Like I have said before, Mwani has NBA athleticism, and he has helped us at both ends. I am happy for all three of them."
Gatkek, a Florida/Texas State transfer, leads the league in blocks with 1.6 per game. The 6-foot-9, 187-pounder is seventh in th league in steals with 1.7. He is also third in the OVC in rebounding with nearly 8 per game.
Lawson, a Memphis/Creighton transfer, averaged 15.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 3.5 apg. The 6-7, 190-pound Memphis native leads the OVC in minutes per game with 37.3 and also recorded 1.7 steals per game.
Wilkinson, an LSU transfer, is also a defensive stalwart as he averaged 1.7 steals, 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. The 6-5, 205-pound Las Vegas native averages 12.8 ppg.
The Trojans play in the OVC Tournament quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 5 seed Tennessee Tech and No. 8 seed UT Martin.
