Thanks to last week's inclement weather, this week is a busy one for the Trojans. So far, it has yielded two wins in three games, and head coach
Chris Curry hopes for more with a weekend Ohio Valley Conference series set at Morehead State. The teams collide at 5 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m., Saturday and noon Sunday. All games can be streamed on ESPN+.
The Trojans were forced to play an abbreviated home series with Lindenwood on Monday with a doubleheader only with the third game nixed because of heavy rain and storms that inundated the area over the weekend. The Trojans won the second game of the twin bill after dropping the opener and then beat Central Arkansas 9-6 on Wednesday, so they arrive in Morehead, Kentucky on a two-game win streak.Â
Wednesday's game at Conway was scheduled for Tuesday but pushed back a day as both teams had to play conference games on Monday.Â
After scoring two runs in the first loss to Lindenwood, the Trojans scored 13 in the win and 9 to come from behind to take the second game in the Governor's I-40 Showdown against the Bears.
Cooper Chaplain, who went 4-for-4 with a homer in the win over Lindenwood, collected three hits on Wednesday.
Ty Rhoades and
Kade Goeke also each had three hits.
Sammy Harris and
Alex Seguine drove in three runs.Â
Morehead State (10-20, 1-8) is riding a four-game losing streak and sits in last place in the OVC. Graduate Arkansas State transfer catcher Hunter Thomas is the only Eagle hitting above .300 as he leads the team with a .315 mark. He also has belted a team-high and OVC-leading 12 home runs and leads the team with 35 RBI.Â
The Eagles lead are second in the OVC in home runs with 44.  Sophomore first baseman Alex Kean is 5
th in the league with seven home runs and sophomore outfielder Davis Germann is 10
th with six. Incidentally, both Kean and Davis are Canadians. Junior Griffin Olson has five dingers to his credit.Â
MSU is last in pitching with in the OVC with a team ERA of 8.34. Sophomore Bradley Poynter is 2-2 in eight starts with a 6.96 ERA.
The two teams didn't play each other until the Trojans began OVC play in 2023. The Eagles lead the series 5-2 and won the first three contests. MSU is riding a two-game win streak after taking both contests last season.Â
