LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – After making memories in Baton Rouge all weekend, the Trojans baseball team had one more highlight in store for them Tuesday afternoon.
A crowd lined the basketball court at the Jack Stephens Center to welcome home the squad that pushed LSU to the brink in the Elimination Game of the Baton Rouge Regional Monday night.
"This is something we hadn't seen before," Little Rock head coach
Chris Curry said. "From the Chancellor (Christiana Drale) on down, it was great seeing the support. That's something these guys are going to remember for a long time."
The event came on the heels of a watch party that attracted more than 200 fans at Waldo's Chicken and Beer Monday night.
"The support means a lot to us," said senior pitcher
Jackson Wells, who also spoke at the event. "Some schools our size don't have that support, but we do, and we felt it all the way down to Baton Rouge."
The event also included speeches from Little Rock Director of Athletics
Frank M. Cuervo, Curry and senior
Alex Seguine and junior
Angel Cano – Outstanding Player of the Regional.
"We love our fans, we really appreciate them," Cano said. "We want to do this again next year. We know [the fans] will be there."
The 2025 team will go down as one of the more successful teams in Trojan Athletic history with epic runs through the OVC Tournament and the Baton Rouge Regional knocking off Top-20 ranked Dallas Baptist squad and upsetting No. 6 national seed LSU on its home field in the same day. They may also go down as the team that started a trend. This may be the first celebration of its kind among the baseball team, but both Cuervo and Curry promise it won't be the last.
"We want to make a habit of gathering on Memorial Day to see where we're are going to play in the Regional," Curry said. "You have to make a Regional before you win one, and now we have done that and want to go back next year. We created a monster, now we have to feed it."
