Andrea Roman picked up in 2025 where she left off the season before, when she finished 6
th nationally in digs as a sophomore. This year, her stellar defensive play is once again making a difference, and it's earned her the Defensive Player of the Week award from the Ohio Valley Conference, picking up six of 11 first-place votes for the week of Sept. 8-13.
The 5-4 native of Humacao, Puerto Rico once again ranks in the NCAA Top 10 in both total digs (3
rd with 138) and digs per set (9
th with 5.52), and ranks first in the OVC in both categories. Her defensive leadership is a big reason why the Trojans are ranked 19
th in the NCAA in team digs per set (19.4).
"Andrea means a lot to our team. She's relentless with her serve receive, and digs. She's one of the best liberos in the country, and she had an outstanding weekend against tough opponents. This is a well-deserved honor," Little Rock head coach
Van Compton said.
Roman has posted at least 15 digs in every match this season, and has at least 22 in each of the last five. Last weekend, during the UCA Invitational, she had 22 vs Southeastern Louisiana, 26 against Central Arkansas, and 24 vs Boston College. She finished the weekend averaging 6.0 digs per set across the three matches. She also had three service aces and eight assists during the weekend.
