LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For the second time this season and the fourth time in his career, Little Rock's
Matty Bianchi has been named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week.
Bianchi previously earned the honor on Nov. 19 earlier this season, as well as Feb. 11, 2025, and Feb. 1, 2023. He joins Oregon State's Maximo Renteria as the only Pac-12 wrestlers to receive the award multiple times this season and gives Little Rock four of the conference's seven weekly honors so far in 2025-26.
"It's a well-deserved honor, and I'm excited for him," head coach
Neil Erisman said. "He's been very consistent and continues to dominate."
Bianchi went 5-0 while capturing the 165-pound title at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee, over the weekend. He scored all five of his points in the third period of the championship match, including a late takedown of No. 22 Gunner Filipowicz of Army, to secure a 5-1 decision and the top spot on the podium.
"I was super excited to compete at the Southern Scuffle this year. I was excited to wrestle in a tournament where you are just grinding out the days with tough matches. Tough two-day tournaments like these are great bonding with the team because everyone is battling and supporting each other, which makes it a lot of fun," Bianchi said. "I felt good about being able to get the job done, especially since my freshman year at this tournament, when I went 0-2. So it was a great full-circle moment to be able to stand on top of that podium in my final year. I'm excited to use these matches to continue improving and preparing for March."
It marked Bianchi's second ranked win of the tournament after defeating No. 19 Thomas Snipes of The Citadel, 4-1, in the semifinals. Bianchi is now 12-0 this season and sits one victory shy of the 75th win of his collegiate career.
