LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock track and field will split its squad this weekend, competing at two major indoor meets: the prestigious two-day Arkansas Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville and the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14.
After strong performances at last weekend's Woo Pig Classic, the Trojans are back in action, looking to build on top finishes and sharpen their form ahead of conference competition. Most of the team will rest this weekend, with only select athletes competing at the Tyson Invitational and Russ Jewett Indoor Classic.
Tyson Invitational
The Tyson Invitational is one of the premier indoor meets in the country, attracting top collegiate and professional talent. Eight Trojans earned qualification in various events, including freshman
Colter Maya in the 400 meters and junior
Devin Stevens in the 800 meters.
Competitors hail from top programs such as Kansas State (who is currently #1 in the country), Florida, and LSU, while professional athletes sponsored by Adidas, Nike, and Puma will also compete. Previous gold medalist and sprint star Noah Lyles is expected to race this weekend.

For Pittsburg State, Little Rock is sending primarily distance runners, including graduate
Jordan Smith and sophomore
Aaliyah Joshua. The 300-meter banked track at the Robert W. Plaster Center provides fewer tight turns, offering faster times and a strong environment for the Trojans. Little Rock has competed here frequently, enjoying consistent success at the meet.

Coach Speak
"The Tyson Invite is the most competitive meet in the country this weekend, and we're excited to see how we stack up," said
J.P. Behnke. "Competing at that elite level should push us toward several big performances. We're also taking a group of our distance athletes to Pittsburg State to give them the opportunity to compete in events they haven't had the chance to run yet."
