BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock track and field delivered a dominant weekend of performances, sweeping the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors while
Colter Maya also claimed Shared OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week. Freshmen Maya and
Jordan Morgan earned the conference recognition following standout showings at the Washburn Open.
Maya turned in one of the top performances in program history, running the second-fastest indoor 400-meter time ever by a Trojan at 47.51. That mark currently ranks first in the OVC this season. He also impressed in the 200 meters, clocking 21.65, which stands as the fourth-best time in the conference.
"All the work we've been putting in as a team is showing itself more and more every meet," Maya said. "This is just a small glimpse of what's to come."
Morgan made her impact in the jumping events, competing in both the long jump and triple jump. She recorded a triple jump mark of 11.75 meters, ranking fourth in the OVC and fourth in school history. Her 5.44-meter long jump placed her ninth in the conference.
"I'm extremely grateful for the recognition and proud of the work I've put in so far," Morgan said. "This motivates me even more to keep pushing, stay locked in, and continue getting better every week."
Both freshmen have made immediate contributions in their first collegiate season and continue to elevate the Trojans' performances across the board.
Head coach
J.P. Behnke added, "These awards are very deserving for both Jordan and Colter. They both have worked hard since our last meet back in December and the results from Washburn proved that."
Maya, Morgan, and the Trojans will face a quick turnaround as they travel to Fayetteville on Saturday, February 7, to compete in the Arkansas Woo Pig Classic.
