Stevens Leads Trojans with Runner-Up Finish at Woo Pig Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Little Rock Trojans delivered a strong showing against elite competition at the Woo Pig Classic, highlighted by a runner-up finish from junior Devin Stevens in the 800 meters.

Little Rock recorded multiple top-three finishes and added several performances to the program's all-time top 10, continuing the team's momentum during a productive indoor season.

Stevens paced the Trojans with a second-place finish in the 800 meters, posting a season-best time of 1:51.69, just one second off his personal best.

"I appreciate the opportunity to compete on the fastest track in the world," Stevens said. "After a tough race last week, I just wanted to come out and compete hard. It was a fun meet, and I can't wait to be back next week."

Freshman Zach Morin impressed in his first 3000-meter race of the season, placing third in a deep field with a time of 8:44.01. Senior Deshawn Roberts also turned in a standout performance, clearing a personal-best 2.10 meters in the high jump to finish third.

On the women's side, senior Talia Palmer etched her name into the record books in the 200 meters, clocking a 24.92 to rank eighth all-time at Little Rock. JaDerrika Welch-Fields joined her in the top 10, recording the eighth-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in program history at 9.33.

The women's 4x400-meter relay delivered one of the weekend's top performances, running a 3:51.92 to move into ninth all-time. Freshmen Naomi Johnson and Raine Jenkins also made their mark in the jumps, with Johnson recording the ninth-best long jump mark at 5.58 meters and Jenkins climbing to fourth all-time in the triple jump. Senior Carolin Bielert continued her rise as well, improving to sixth all-time in the triple jump with a mark of 11.56 meters.

"I'm very happy with the progress we've made throughout the indoor season," said head coach J.P. Behnke. "We saw several breakthrough performances, and the training is coming together at the right time."

The Trojans will look to carry that momentum into another busy weekend, competing at both the Arkansas Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville and the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas, on Friday and Saturday, February 13–14.
