NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Little Rock turned in a strong performance at the Carl Kight Invite & Multi, earning two first-place finishes highlighted by seniors
Brooklyn Marcee and
Deshawn Roberts.
The Trojans put together a solid two days in Texas, as a smaller group showcased experience in the multi-events and field competitions. Marcee tied for first place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.91 meters, while Roberts claimed first in the high jump, clearing 2.09 meters, just shy of his season best.
"My mindset was simple—just enjoy the sport of track & field while building momentum for even greater heights," said Roberts.
The meet also featured a competitive field of multi-athletes, giving Little Rock a strong opportunity to prepare for conference competition. Freshman
Trace Foreman delivered an impressive performance, placing third overall in the decathlon with 5,933 points. Sophomore Morcleslou Harris was unable to finish the event.
On the women's side, senior
JaDerrika Welch-Fields placed fifth in a strong heptathlon field, totaling 4,432 points.
"I'm very proud of how everyone handled the conditions," said assistant coach
Will Kendall. "We had downpours, lightning delays, and long days. Our high jumpers and pole vaulters had a very strong meet, and it should be a great confidence boost heading into the second half of the outdoor season. The multis are always tough, but it was a valuable experience for everyone. We'll look to continue the momentum next week in Fayetteville, while the multi-athletes get some well-deserved rest and recovery."

The Trojans will return to action next Saturday at the Arkansas Spring Invite in Fayetteville. While not the full team will compete, it provides a strong opportunity to face top competition in a premier setting.
