BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – Behind another strong performance from sophomore
Ed Featherstone, Little Rock Men's Golf surged up the leaderboard Tuesday at the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional at Bermuda Run Country Club.
The Trojans posted a 4-under-par team round — one of the better rounds of the day — to climb five spots in the standings entering Wednesday's final round. Little Rock sits 11th overall at 10-over-par after 36 holes.
Featherstone paced the Trojans once again and is tied for 18th individually at 2-under-par for the tournament after carding a second-round 68. The OVC Player of the Year played steady golf throughout the day, recording four birdies and finishing with a 35 on the back nine to remain among the regional's top individual performers.
Freshman standout
Viggo Talasmaki continued his consistent postseason play and is tied for 31st at even par following a 1-under 70 in round two. Talasmaki bounced back after the turn with a strong closing stretch to finish under par for the day.
Mark Stockdale delivered one of Little Rock's key rounds Tuesday, firing a 1-under 70 to move into a tie for 63rd overall at 7-over for the tournament.
Elliott Simonsen is also tied for 63rd after posting a second-round 72.
Rhett South rounded out the Trojan lineup and sits tied for 70th overall.
Little Rock improved dramatically from Monday's opening round, shaving 18 strokes off its team score and moving ahead of Navy, Presbyterian and nationally ranked Georgia Tech.
No. 3 Virginia continues to lead the regional at 27-under-par, while Pepperdine and Ole Miss are tied for second at 21-under. Mississippi State sits fourth at 18-under, and USC currently occupies the fifth and final NCAA Championship qualifying position at 11-under.
The final round of the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional begins Wednesday morning.
