Bobby Brasel is in his second stint on Joe Foley's staff, returning to the Trojan sideline in May 2019.
Brasel spent the last four seasons as the associate head coach at North Texas, helping guide the program from a 5-24 record the year prior to his arrival to an 18-16 mark in 2018-19. This past season, Brasel was part of the Mean Green staff that advanced to the WBI Finals and posted the highest number of victories in a season since 2005-06.
Brasel’s first stint in Little Rock came from 2013-15, spending two years with Foley on the Trojan sideline. During that span, Little Rock posted an overall record of 47-17, including a 30-8 mark in Sun Belt play. Brasel was a key component of Little Rock’s 29-5 season in 2014-15, one which saw the Trojans win both the Sun Belt regular season and conference tournament titles and knock off Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Known for his defensive mindedness, Brasel worked closely with Foley to help the Trojans to continue to earn a reputation as one of the top defensive teams in the nation. Little Rock allowed just 51.5 points per game in 2014-15, leading the Sun Belt Conference.
Prior to his time in Little Rock, Brasel spent seven years on staff at conference foe South Alabama from 2006-2013 as the Jaguars consistently had one of the best defenses in the Sun Belt. South Alabama led the league in scoring defense four times during that stretch and remained among the top programs in the Sun Belt in a number of other defensive categories.
Brasel served as the head coach at Garden City Community College from 1999-2006, resurrecting the Lady Broncbuster program that had a lifetime winning percentage of just 38 percent prior to his arrival. Under his guidance, GCCC went 111-108 during this tenure with six postseason appearances, highlighted by a Jayhawk Conference and Region 6 title and an NJCAA Final Four trip in 2003.
Brasel left Garden City as the program’s all-time winningest coach, earning Coach of the Year honors from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA District E in 2003. He recruited and coached two NJCAA All-Americans and eight Academic All-Americans, graduating 98 percent of his student-athletes.
A native of Big Spring, Texas, Brasel earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1993.
